Our Approach
Testing That Goes Beneath the Surface
At Body Blu, functional laboratory testing serves as a cornerstone of our personalized care model and really takes testing beyond what a patient will receive through their insurance company. Rather than relying solely on symptom-based treatment, Dr. Scarpuzzi uses advanced testing to uncover underlying imbalances that may be contributing to fatigue, digestive concerns, hormone issues, metabolic dysfunction, nutrient deficiencies, and other chronic health challenges. He takes the time to thoroughly interpret results and translate complex data into practical, individualized recommendations. Patients appreciate the clarity and confidence that comes from understanding what is happening beneath the surface, creating a more engaged and collaborative healthcare experience.
The result is real clarity on what's driving your symptoms, and a practical plan built from your own data, not a generic checklist. Whether you feel unwell despite normal routine labs, are managing a hormone imbalance, or simply want to optimize your long-term health and vitality, functional testing gives you the insight to move forward with confidence.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about functional lab testing at Body Blu.

Standard insurance panels are typically designed to flag disease, not to explore the underlying imbalances that cause how you feel day to day. A routine checkup might measure a handful of markers like cholesterol, glucose, or a basic metabolic panel, but these often miss early dysfunction and the complex interplay of hormones, nutrients, toxins, and immune signals that shape your day-to-day health. Functional lab testing looks more broadly and closely, giving a fuller picture before issues become serious.

Depending on your symptoms, testing may uncover imbalances contributing to fatigue, digestive concerns, hormone issues, metabolic dysfunction, nutrient deficiencies, and other chronic health challenges. This can include hormone and thyroid panels that go beyond a standard TSH, comprehensive stool analysis and SIBO testing for gut health, food sensitivity and allergy panels, heavy metals and toxicity screening, and genetic testing such as MTHFR. Your specific panel is chosen based on what you're experiencing and your health goals.

Depending on which panels are recommended, samples may be taken from blood, urine, stool, hair, or saliva. This can include specialized assessments like adrenal and cortisol testing, neurotransmitter testing, or even biological age testing, alongside more familiar bloodwork. Your provider will explain exactly what's involved before any testing begins.

We take the time to thoroughly interpret your results and translate the data into practical, individualized recommendations, rather than just handing you a printout. This kind of testing is a great fit whether you feel unwell despite normal routine labs, are managing a chronic condition, or simply want to be proactive about your long-term health. You'll leave your results review understanding what's happening and what the next steps are.

Frequency depends on your specific health goals and what's being monitored, some patients test as part of an initial workup, while others retest periodically to track progress. Your provider will recommend a schedule as part of your personalized plan.

Some panels require fasting or avoiding certain supplements beforehand, while others don't require any special preparation. You'll receive clear instructions specific to your testing before your appointment.

Turnaround time varies depending on the specific panel, but most results are available within one to two weeks. Your provider will schedule a follow-up to review findings and next steps as soon as results are in.

We are a cash-pay office, which includes FSA and HSA cards as accepted forms of payment. We don't contract directly with insurance companies, but we're happy to provide a detailed superbill on request that you can submit to your provider.
